On November 13th, the Northern New Jersey Chapter of the National Alumnae Association of Spelman College held its annual Spelbound event. This event gives New Jersey students, who are interested in attending Spelman, and their parents the opportunity to learn more about Spelman’s admissions process. This year we had approximately 40 students and parents attend the event along with many alumnae from the Northern New Jersey area. Shealyn Blanchard, a native of New Jersey and a 2010 graduate of Spelman, gave a wonderful presentation on Spelman’s history, admissions requirements, course offerings, and tuition. Attendees were then able to ask Spelman alumnae any questions they had related to life at Spelman and college life in general. Many of the parents, as well as the students, appreciated and applauded Shealyn and the North Jersey alumnae for the plethora of information that was provided and for their genuine concern for the success of our young African-American women.
Many thanks to Chanta Blue, C’06, for coordinating this event and to all alumnae in attendance!
On Sunday, August, 8, 2010, the Northern NJ Chapter of NAASC welcomed the Class of 2014 at our Annual Pre-Freshman Tea. The tea was held at the home of Alison Jackson, C’82. Both students and parents enjoyed lively discussions in their breakout groups which were moderated by Zakiyya Jordan, C‘02 and Terri Davis, C’89 respectively.
The Northern NJ Chapter also awarded four book scholarships in the amount of $500 each to Ashlee Beverett of Montclair, Sharee Bookman of Camden, Kaitlyn Jackson of Morristown, and Stephanie Williams of Plainfield. Congratulations to our scholarship recipients and all of the young women!
We would like to thank everyone who attended the 20th Annual Benefit Concert & Silent Auction on Saturday, March 13th to support the Northern New Jersey Chapter (NNJC) scholarship program. [More]
